Gateshead100 is part of the national celebrations marking the centenary of the act which gave the vote to certain women over 30. During 2018 you can explore resources, events and displays about suffragettes and women from all walks of life whose achievements should be celebrated.


Women in Politics Project:
With support funding from Historic England, St Mary's Heritage Centre on Gateshead Quays have researched 10 amazing women in politics who over the past 100 years of regional significance who have ‘made a difference’.

Women’s Work100:
St Mary’s Heritage Centre, Gateshead, Tuesday 6 March - Friday 1 June (viewing 10am-4pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am-1pm Saturday)
This display includes images from Gateshead Local Studies Collection and the Imperial War Museum celebrating the working lives of women during the First World War and beyond. Free, just turn up.


From Women's Rights to Human Rights: How the Struggle for the Vote Changed the World.

Gateshead Central Library, Thursday 24 May, 6.30pm
The struggle of local women was to have a profound effect on the lives of everyone during the 20th Century. This talk with Rosie Serdiville looks at just how they did it and what the implications for future political movements.
