What is there to see and do?

The interior of the medieval Grade 1-listed includes memorials to notable people of Gateshead, evidence of the Great Fire of Gateshead and early medieval grave covers and carvings. You are free to wander and take in one of the oldest buildings in the area.

Highlights of the centre include:

  • A series of display panels tells the fascinating story of Gateshead from its early days as a Roman settlement to modern times
  • Family history resources relating to the church which was the venue of all Church of England burials before 1811 and all baptisms and marriages before 1825
  • Find out about the History of Gateshead in the atmospheric medieval church and graveyard.
