The ‘Chandless Lives’ project celebrated the personal memories and stories of the people who lived on the Chandless Estate in Gateshead, which had been built in the 1960s and was about to be demolished.
The project resulted in an exhibition and a book containing work by photographer Sharon Bailey and drawings and paintings by Robert Soden.
The online resource called ‘Spirit of Chandless’ is a culmination of this exhibition and project, alongside former Chandless residents working with artists Stevie Ronnie and Sharon Bailey to capture, record and explore their Chandless stories and experiences in visual formats.
The two artists have collected a wealth of information, stories and photos to create an online, accessible resource to archive, interpret, celebrate and capture the heritage of the Chandless area in Gateshead.
The Spirit of Chandless project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Sharing Heritage’ scheme and managed by Gateshead Council’s Arts Development Team. spiritofchandless.org/
